Lesson #8 – How To Condition Your Mind To Succeed

Life is going to come at you hard at times. You may already know this. If you have not
experienced loss and grief yet, prepare yourself. It is inevitable. If you do not have a
strong will along with an “I can do this” mindset you could be dead in the water at living
your best life. Things and people are going to pull you down at times. I know how
challenging it is to transform your body, lifestyle and life. Here are some tools / mindset
hacks to give you a mental boost if and when you ever doubt yourself.

Reaching your true potential in relationships, career and money, and health, fitness and
longevity is a mind game. Your mind is more powerful than you realize.

Thinking is simply asking & answering questions in our own head. One key is to ask

better questions. Instead of I can’t, ask “how can I?” The quality of our lives comes

down to the quality of the questions we habitually ask. Ask crappy questions, get crappy

answers. Learn to ask better questions. The key is to train yourself to habitually ask

empowering optimistic questions.

No matter what life throws at you look at it and ask an empowering question. What
am I supposed to learn from this? How can I over come this? Who could help me?
The better questions you ask the more empowering solutions you’ll find.

ATTITUDE

Your attitude is everything. It is the only thing that you are in control of in life.
Everything else comes at you fast and furious.

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home. The remarkable thing is, we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past. We cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our attitudes.

Every day that you wake up, you have a choice. Are you going to have a good
attitude today and see your glass as half full and focus on solutions? Or are you
going to wake up and see your glass as half empty, and focus on the problems?

The majority of time you will bring more to you of what you focus on. Whether you
focus on the glass being ½ full or ½ empty, the key is to know that is possible to fill
your glass back up. Below is a simple exercise that will help you adjust your attitude
and set your intentions every day.

THE 1/2 INCH ADVANTAGE
One way to straighten out your attitude is to straighten out your posture. You would
be amazed at how your posture determines your thoughts. When you stand tall, you
cannot be fearful, pessimistic, or sluggish. Conversely, when you have slumped
posture, you will not be excited, optimistic, or feel energetic. Waking up every day and
being happy and excited is a choice.

Let me prove it to you. Let’s practice. Stand tall, with your chest open and your
shoulders pulled back as if you were standing in front of a loud drill sergeant. Tilt your
sternum bone (upper chest) slightly higher than normal. You will be about ½ inch taller.
Now take a long, slow, deep breath in through your nose. Take in as much air as you
can as your stomach pushes outward. This called a diaphragmatic breath. Hold the
air in your lungs for 10 seconds, then breathe out your mouth as long and slow as
possible as you pull your belly button in toward your spine. Breath normally for 15
seconds then repeat.

After your third long breath stand tall and repeat after me “I am excited about my
Life… I am thankful for all that I have… Today is another opportunity..

During your long breaths picture visualize what you want your body to look like at the
end of your transformation. Feel the sweet emotion of accomplishing all of your
reasons you listed on your Goal Sheet of why you wanted to lose weight, become
stronger, healthier and more energetic.

You must, I repeat, YOU MUST utilize this two-minute mental exercise first thing of
each and every morning. Do not underestimate the power behind this little exercise.
As soon as your eyes open I want you to stand up and do it.

A strong posture will give you confidence, energy, excitement & a feeling of optimism.
Conversely, a poor posture is in line with feelings of not being excited, negative, and
depression.

Did you ever notice most things that are good, bright, happy, fun, fast, high energy,
optimistic, heavenly, opportunistic are up? And everything that is low energy,
pessimistic, depressed, lack, boring, bad, evil, hell, dark is down? Keep your posture,
your eyes, the corners of your mouth (smile) and your chin UP.

Your posture, thoughts, and your words are more closely related than you may think.
Make your posture strong with the ½ inch advantage and your thoughts and words will
usually follow. Your triad (posture, thoughts & words) is more powerful than you may
realize. Be aware of it at all times.

THOUGHTS AND WORDS ARE POWERFUL

Every day has the potential to be another opportunity, or it could just be another day.
It all depends on how you look at it.

Chances are that most of you are going to look at it the same way you looked at it
yesterday, and the month before that, and the year before that. We are creatures of
habit. That gives us our comfort zone. Sadly, most of us are in a rut. The only
difference between a rut and a grave is the depth.

Life is a self-fulfilling prophecy so watch the words that come out of your mouth.
Chances are you are not even aware of how many times you say negative things like,
“I am sick and tired… I have no time… I am overwhelmed… back to the grind…” etc.
Ask someone how they’re doing. How many times have you heard someone say “oh
hanging in there” with low tonation in their voice and a low posture? That is not good.
Some people may say that they are just words but I disagree.

I tell every client that I want to hear Tony the Tiger when I ask them how they are
feeling. They look at me funny. And I say “I’m GGGGGRRRRR88888TTT”!! They
laugh and understand my point.
Even if you are not feeling great, say it. Faith it till you make it. You would be
surprised how a little smile and how positive words really will empower you to feel
better and become more optimistic.

The 7 Day Challenge

You may have been saying disempowering, negative things for so long that you are
not even aware of it. Here is a game you can play. Works best with a partner. For one
week you are not allowed to hold a negative thought or word. Take the 7-day
challenge. That is not to say that you might not think or say something that is
negative. But you have to catch yourself or your partner and say “oooops, what I
meant to say is going forward I _____” and put a positive spin on it. I guarantee if you
play this game for 7 days you will create a habit of saying positive and empowering
things consistently.

Your words are powerful. You will become what you consistently think and say.
• Stand guard of what you read, what you listen to and what you watch
• Who and what you hang around will influence your thoughts. garbage in, garbage out
• Your thoughts will become words
• Your words become actions
• Your actions become habits
• Your habits become character
• Your character becomes your destiny

Success must be attracted, not pursued. Personal value is the magnet that attracts
all good things into our lives. The greater our value, the greater our rewards. Since
the solution for having more is becoming more, we must be in constant search for
new ways to increase our value. It is the acquisition of more value that we must
pursue, not more valuables. Become healthier and more energetic and you have
more value. You will bring more of you to everybody and everything that you do.

Reticular Activation System (RAS)

Definition – The part of the reticular formation in the brainstem that plays a central role in bodily and behavioral alertness; its ascending connections affect the function of the cerebral cortex and its descending connections affect bodily posture and reflex mechanisms.

Your RAS’s main job is to limit how many things you can be aware of at one time. At
any given point in time, there are 60 or 70 things going on around you that you could
be aware of. But you would have a nervous breakdown if you were conscious of
everything at one time. In a nut shell, your RAS helps you stay focused.
Did you ever experience a time when you bought a car? A beautiful red corvette for
example. The second you drive it off the car lot you start to see red corvettes
everywhere. Before you started thinking of buying the car you rarely saw red corvettes.

But the instant you bought one they were everywhere. I know this has happened to me.
What happened? When you bought your car did everyone get the same idea at the
same time and run out and buy one just like it? Obviously not. They were always around
you, but you were unaware of them.

The moral of this story is if you want something, focus on it. Write it down. Set a goal.
Every day say it out loud. When you do this, you will begin to see things for the first
time that have always been around you. Things that will help you get what you want.

Your RAS is the part of your brain that automatically filters out what is not important to
you and brings your attention to things that are important to you. More of what we focus
on shows up. The RAS system of your brain simply helps this process along.

If you are not getting to where we want to go, it is not for a lack of resources, it is a lack
of resource-fullness. Everything you need to live your dreams is right around you.

Do not under estimate the power of your Goal Sheet with your emotional reasons. Read
yours out loud with a strong voice and posture every morning and every night. Also
visualize your new, healthy strong body in the theatre of your mind.

                                                                 LIMITING BELIEFS

Limiting beliefs are a set of generalizations we make about ourselves, others and the world around us. They are not fact, although we act as if they were. Beliefs form our version of reality based on what we feel and perceive about our experiences. They are like barriers that we will not cross, or even attempt to cross.
The fact is there are only a few universal truths. All the rest are just different individuals’ perceptions of their world as they see it. What they believe to be true are their limiting beliefs.
True Story

Man has been holding athletic competitions for centuries. In fact, the first events were

held in the Ancient Olympic Games in 776 B.C. Up until the start of 1954, the sporting

world absolutely knew that it was physically impossible to run a mile in under four

minutes. In the history of competition, no one had ever come close. In fact, many

medical doctors said that the human body did not have the muscular and cardiovascular

endurance needed to achieve such a feat. But on May 6, 1954, Roger Banister did what

no man thought was possible. He became the first man to break the four-minute barrier

with a time of 3 minutes, 59.4 seconds.

In the following two years, 37 other runners broke the four-minute mile and shattered

Roger’s mark. The reality was that the “Four Minute Mile” was a psychological (mental)

barrier. It was a “Limiting Belief” that stalled runners for centuries of reaching their true

potential. Your “Limiting Beliefs” or “mental barriers” are considerably more powerful

than your physical barriers.

What is your “Four Minute Mile” barrier? What are your limiting beliefs that are holding

you captive?

I can’t start my own business…

I’m not smart enough…

I don’t have enough time and energy…

I can’t lose weight and get fit…

I have a slow metabolism or bad thyroid…

I can’t balance work, family, and relationships…

Trust me when I tell you that every one of your “Limiting Beliefs” are not founded on the

truth. They are “bull-shit belief stories” that you believe to be true. Pick your “Four

Minute Mile” and set your own world record. I know that you can do it.

Breakthrough your limiting beliefs on what you can and cannot do.

Whether you think you can or can’t…  You are 100% Correct.

Your body cannot go where your mind has not yet been…   What that means is

that you must see what it is possible in your mind first…

a better body… a healthier lifestyle…  more real energy…  to sleep better each night…

to wake up feeling refreshed, energetic and optimistic…

to honestly feel that your better days are ahead of you… to feel no regrets…
